Flamingo Ribbons by FamiliarOddlings Flamingo Ribbons by FamiliarOddlings
For the PiNKiTUDE contest [link]

The idea of flamingos with pink ribbon around their necks begged to be drawn. So I drew it in pencil in my sketchbook. I decided to add the pink in Photoshop. And that's what I've been doing for the last three days--making the sketch pink and tweaking the pink in Photoshop! My eyes burn from all the pink! Seriously, the whites of my eyes are all pink and bloodshot. And my dreams are full of flamingos. I can't stand to look at this anymore, but I hope I got it to the point where it's not too hazardous to view.

I learned a lot about Photoshop from this experience. I never really messed with the different layer options before. Plus I found out how to change the PPI for my scanner. :w00t:

Oh wow. You'd think with something using all of the same color scheme, things would mesh together, but the way this is executed is both skillful and gorgeous!

Thanks! ^_^ Yeah, I was worried about it all fading into itself and just being this ... pink page. So I slaved over the value and intensity adjustments in Photoshop and really stressed myself out over it, haha. Not something I'd recommend, but I guess it worked out. Thank you again!

You're welcome. It's how I get with projects I really want to go well, except, well, I have a lot more thought to put into anything I'm going to write and being in a bad slump for the past several months isn't helping there.

Wow, this is completely beautiful and magical to me even though I normally am not fond of pink. I just...I love this piece, goodness. All the flamingos are gorgeous, you did such a nice job on their pretty feathers, I love the shading and the highlighting on them. The ribbons are lovely too, so soft looking. The layout of the piece is especially pleasing, the backgrounds gives it a dreamy feeling. Like walking out into a magic garden at some great mysterious house you have been forced against your will to board at over the summer, only to discover this lovely which makes it all better. Not sure why but that is just the story that comes to mind for me with this piece.:blackrose:

First of all, I have to give you a great big  for this comment! And your lovely story to go with it! I love your comments so much, Aria!

I don't usually like pink much either. The flamingos nearly killed me--remember our conversation a while ago about how hard birds are to draw? Well, I seriously punished myself with this piece. Flamingos are so darn weird shaped it's really hard to draw them properly. I'm so happy you think it turned out well! And the layout! I had such a hard time figuring out where to put everything and I thought it was getting too cluttered-looking. You set my mind at ease. ^__^
