Birthday gift for one of my closest friends. Her favorite cephalopod is the nautilus. She was quite amazed when she opened the box and found this little guy!

The shell is papier mache painted and varnished; the fleshy parts are needle felted wool. It's weighted in the shell and hangs by a stretchy string so it can bounce and bob like they do while swimming. You can't see in this picture, but I included the siphon.

A real nautilus has ninety tentacles! Ninety! I only managed to fit thirty for this one.
It's about seven inched long.
Me encanta!
This reminds me of a plush I had sewn of a nautilus for my fiance. I love plush making, and am definitely going to look into trying my hand at needle-felt work

The shell looks so nice and shiny, and I really like how true to nature the colours look!
also the way it's peeking out at the world from that eye is completely adorable!
So basicly I have to quit school and learn how to do this... Yep, that's what I'm going to do...
When looking at the thumb it looked like the real deal. Looks a bit more fluffy when you see it up close, but I can only imagine how amassing it must look IRL.
Thank you! Yes, the thumb turned out so cool-looking, didn't it? ^_^ It is quite fuzzy IRL too but the movement I managed to get it to have with the weights in the shell make it worth it. I wish I had made a video of it.
Thanks for the wonderful comment!
