The Caregivers

Commissioned sketch for *bloodrose83 of some of her characters from her fantastic novel in progress, the Oracle saga. These are the two main Oracles (the children) and their caretakers (the adults). The pair on the left is Istas, caretaker cousin, and Isktyr, the child Oracle and main character for the novel. On the right, we have Sallust the caretaker and Xenophon the Oracle and main villain. One of the things I love about these intriguing relationships is that Sallust and Xenophon are from ancient times and come into the story as spirits in one form or another. So this image is totally anachronistic. But it shows the obvious parallel between the two pairs and their innocent happy days when the Oracles were just kids.

Anyway, I shamelessly amused myself by playing dress-up dolls with these guys. I changed their clothes so many times, it's ridiculous. The paper began to suffer from erasing and redrawing so much. But I had fun designing the costumes and coming up with the patterns and little details.
